Transmission Mode Switch: Service and Repair

This procedure consists of replacing the multi-function switch by cutting the wire harness connecting the computer assembly and multi-function switch. The new multi-function switch service kit includes one multi-function switch with a wire harness and a male connector, one female connector, six male terminals and six seals.
1. Remove switch from transaxle.
2. Cut harness the same length as replacement harness.
3. On computer side, remove approximately 2.6 inches of outer insulation from cable end. Remove .020 inch of insulation from each wire.
4. Install a seal onto each wire.
5. Install and crimp the six male terminals onto wire ends. Some computers are connected to the multi-function switch with seven wires. If this is the case, cut yellow or white wire on computer side of harness flush with protective sleeve.
6. When installing wires into connector, ensure wire color codes are not interchanged.
