Idle Speed/Throttle Actuator - Electronic: Testing and Inspection

Fig. 12 Idle regulator valve terminal identification:

1. Disconnect electrical connector, remove valve, then rotate manually by hand in both directions and ensure valve opens and closes.
2. Supply battery voltage to terminal 4 on valve side of connector, then temporarily ground terminal 5, Fig. 12. Valve should close fully. Never supply voltage to ECU side of connector, since damage to ECU will result.
3. Remove ground from terminal 5, then ground terminal 3 of connector. Valve should open fully.
4. Using tool MS1700 or equivalent, test complete valve circuit following tool manufacturer's instructions.
5. If valve does not perform as stated above, it should be replaced.
