SYMPTOM/CONDITION
Some 1988-1989 Eagle Medallion models are equipped with dual body-color power remote-control mirrors. If these mirrors are replaced, the replacement parts must be painted to match the exterior color of the vehicle.
REFINISH/PAINTING PROCEDURE
The following procedures for painting the polyamide exterior rearview mirrors has been provided by the Sherwin-Williams Paint Company:
1. Clean the surface to be painted with solvent, using Sher-Will-Clean R7 K 156. Wipe completely dry.
2. Scuff the entire surface lightly with a 3M Scotch Pad (7448). You may substitute 600 grit wet or dry sandpaper, but extra care should be used to avoid gouging the surface.
3. Clean the surface again with Sher-Will-Clean, R7 K 156.
4. Mask the mirror glass and any other surface which will not be painted.
5. Tack off the surface that will be painted.
6. Apply either Ultra Base 7 Acrylic Urethane material for base coat/clear coat finishes or Acrylyd Acrylic Enamel for single state finishes. Be certain to follow the mixing instructions printed on the label and add a hardener as required.
Also, use a Multi-flex V6V299 flex additive to increase the durability of the topcoat.
