Owner Letter
Dear Renault/Eagle Medallion Vehicle Owner:This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Chrysler Motors has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in some 1988 and 1989 model year Renault/Eagle Medallion passenger cars.
Your car, whose Vehicle Identification Number is shown on the enclosed form, is one of the affected vehicles. For this reason we ask that you arrange for service to correct the condition without delay. The service and required parts as defined in this letter will be provided free of charge.
The defect involves the throttle cable which is attached to the fuel system throttle lever. An over-travel mechanism of the cable may malfunction and restrict travel of the cable. This could keep the throttle from closing back to the idle position when the driver's foot is lifted from the accelerator pedal. Under some conditions, this could result in an accident without prior warning.
To prevent this condition, the throttle cable must be replaced with a revised cable. This repair will take about one-half hour to complete. However, additional time may be required depending on how dealer service appointments are scheduled and processed. To obtain this free service:
^ Contact your dealer as soon as possible to schedule an appointment for the work to be done.
^ Take the enclosed Owner Recall Notification Form with you at the time of your appointment and give it to your dealer. The form shows the identification number for the vehicle which requires service.
If you have any problem obtaining the needed service, please contact the Chrysler Zone Service Office in your area (shown on the enclosed listing). A Zone representative will arrange for prompt servicing of your car.
We regret any inconvenience which this action may cause you. However, we believe that you understand our concern for motor vehicle safety, and for your continued satisfaction with our products. If your dealer fails or is unable to remedy this defect without charge within a reasonable time, you may submit a written complaint to the Administrator, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 400 Seventh Street, S.W., Washington, D.C. 20590, or call the Toll Free Auto Safety Hotline at 1-800-424-9393. (Washington D.C. area residents may call 366-0123.)
Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
