To: All Jeep/Eagle Dealers

Subject: Engine Compartment Wiring Harness Abrasion

Models: 1988 Medallion

IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED

Two brackets installed on the subject vehicles to support the engine compartment EFI wiring may abrade the harness. To insulate the harness from the metal brackets, both of the harness support brackets must be removed and have a section of heat shrink tubing applied to the extended leg of the brackets that support the wiring harness.

This service should be performed on all in-stock vehicles and on any customer vehicles returned for other normal service.

Note: Many of the subject vehicles will be returning to your Service Department for the Customer Satisfaction Notification JE8801-8805 repairs. Be sure to perform this harness clip service while the vehicles are in for the JE8801-8805 service.

Parts Required

Two sections of heat shrink tubing --1" diameter x 2-1/2"long.

Service Procedure

Locate the harness support brackets. The brackets are attached to the underside of the intake manifold along the #4 cylinder intake runner.

1. Disconnect the air temperature sensor electrical connector.

2. Loosen the two air intake hose clamps and remove the air intake hose from the air cleaner housing and intake manifold.

3. Disconnect the air by-pass regulator valve electrical connector.

4. Remove the three retaining bolts from the air regulator mounting bracket.

5. Move the air intake hose, air by-pass regulator valve and mounting bracket to one side for access to the EFI harness support brackets.
6. Remove the two EFI harness support brackets.

7. Install the heat shrink tubing over the extended legs of both brackets that support the harness and apply heat with a heat gun until tubing fits tightly around brackets.

8. With a mirror, inspect and repair any previous EFI harness chafing at the support bracket locations.

9. Reinstall both EFI harness support brackets.

10. Reinstall the air by-pass regulator valve and its mounting bracket.

11. Reinstall the air intake hose to the intake manifold and air cleaner. Tighten both clamps.

12. Reconnect wires to the air temperature sensor and the air by-pass regulator.
