SYMPTOM/CONDITION
The front brake pad wear sensor may have a broken warning light wires. This condition will prevent the brake pad wear warning light from illuminating in the instrument cluster.
DIAGNOSIS
When servicing the front brakes, inspect the condition of the brake pad wear sensor warning light wires on both sides of the vehicle.
If the wire is broken, proceed with the following repair procedure. If the wire is not broken, perform steps #2 and #8 only.
PARTS REQUIRED (TWO SIDES)
8 - Retaining Clips PN T3078069
2 - Retaining Clips PN T3079133
2 - 1/4 In. Diameter Heat Shrink Tubes (As Required)
FIGURE 1:
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Remove the plastic grommet (A) from the frame rail. See Figure 1.
FIGURE 2:
2. Remove the wire from the shock absorber retaining clip.
3. Strip 3/4 in. of insulation from both ends (B) of the broken wire(s). See Figure 2
4. Slide 1-1/2 in. of heat shrink tubing (C) over the brake pad end of the wire(s). See Figure 2

5. Twist the two ends together and solder using resin core solder. See Figure 3

6. Slide the heat shrink tubing over the soldered joint and shrink the tubing with a heat gun. See Figure 4
FIGURE 5:
7. Reinstall the plastic grommet in the frame rail.
8. Install retaining clips PN T3078069 (D), and retaining clip PN T3079133 (E) as positioned in Figure 5. Verify the correct wire routing by cycling the steering wheel from stop to stop and check for binding. Reposition the wire(s) as necessary and secure the clips.
