Recall - PCV Harness and Reset Idle Speed: Overview

No. 623

Date: May, 1995

To: All California Jeep(R) & Eagle Dealers

Subject:
California Emissions Recall # 623 -- PCV Harness and Reset Idle Speeds

Models:
1985 through 1988 Model Year Jeep CJ-7 (CJ), Wrangler (YJ), J10 and Grand Wagoneer (SJ); and AMC Eagle Vehicles Equipped With a 4.2L Engine Currently Located in California

NOTE:
1987 model year vehicles equipped with a 4.2L engine and California emission control system are not included in this recall service since the PCV harness was replaced as a part of Recall # 312T.

Fuel vapors may cause deterioration of the PCV harness assembly on the above listed vehicles. PCV harness deterioration may result in objectionable driveability and/or HC, CO and NOx emissions which exceed the limits allowed by California Air Resources Board (GARB) standards. To correct this condition, the PCV harness assembly must be replaced and the engine idle speeds must be reset. Vehicles located outside of California will be serviced under Emissions Recall # 622.

Important:
This recall is subject to the State of California Registration Renewal/Emissions Recall Enforcement Program. Involved vehicles must have the recall service completed before registration renewal.

The servicing dealer must provide a Vehicle Emission Recall Proof of Correction Form (Form No. 81-016-1053) to each owner upon completion of the recall service, for use as proof in renewal of the vehicle registration.

Details of this service action are explained in the following sections.
