Electric Assist Choke Servicing & Testing
SERVICEThe only service required is to make sure that the electrical connection to the electric choke is clean and tight and that the choke linkage is clean and operates freely.
DIAGNOSIS
4-150 & 6-258 ENGINES
1. Disconnect electric assist choke wire from choke housing.
2. Connect one lead of a test light to spade connector at choke housing and other lead of test light to choke wire.
3. Disconnect choke heat tube at choke housing and start engine.
4. Using a small thermometer, position bulb end of thermometer inside heat tube passage of choke housing.
5. Note thermometer reading and observe test light. Lamp should be out when 60 - 80 °F is noted on thermometer. Lamp should be off when temperature readings are below or above those specified previously. If test light does not go on at all, check 7 volt supply from alternator.
6. If test light does not go on within the 60---80° F range, replace choke cover.
