Circuit Breaker Test

Fig. 1 Windshield wiper switch continuity chart. 1982---87:

The circuit breaker is integral with the wiper switch on all models. Circuit breakers have a rated capacity of and 7 amps on all other models. The circuit breaker cannot be repaired or serviced separately from the wiper switch.
1. Remove wiper switch or circuit breaker and connect a suitable volt/amp tester as follows:
a. Connect negative lead of tester to positive post of battery.
b. Connect positive lead of tester to wiper switch terminal 1.
c. Using a suitable jumper wire, connect negative post of battery to switch terminal 2.
2. Adjust tester to allow current flow equal to circuit breaker rated capacity, following manufacturer's instructions, and observe tester for 10 minutes.
3. If circuit breaker opens within 10 minutes (tester reading drops to zero), circuit breaker is defective.
4. Adjust tester to allow current flow twice the rated capacity of circuit breaker.
5. Circuit breaker should open within 30 seconds. If circuit breaker does not open, it is defective.
