PURPOSE

The balance shafts reduce vibration at all engine speeds.

OPERATION

The balancer assembly consists of two eccentrically weighted, balance shafts. The shafts are counter rotated at twice crankshaft speed by a gear on the crankshaft Fig 16. This gear also drives the in-sump oil pump.
