Parking Brake Caliper - Installation

INSTALLATION

NOTE: Brake pads must be removed to perform Step 1.

1. If parking brake caliper piston is not fully seated in its bore, seat piston as follows:
a. Insert double-pin end of Piston Retractor (3), Special Tool 6366, into holes in top of piston.
b. Rotate Piston Retractor clockwise until piston is fully seated (bottomed) in its bore.

2. Install brake pads as follows:
a. Install parking brake pads in caliper (Inboard and outboard shoes are identical).
b. Position anti-rattle spring (4), then slide retaining pin (1) through anti-rattle spring and holes in pads (2).
c. Using a drift punch, continue to install retaining pin into caliper until snap ring on end of retaining pin is fully seated in outboard side of caliper.
d. Install hair pin (3) in brake pads retaining pin.

3. Install parking brake caliper (3) on knuckle (1). Install brake caliper mounting bolts.
4. Install parking brake caliper mounting bolts. Tighten upper mounting bolt (5) to 32 Nm (24 ft. lbs.). Tighten lower mounting bolt (4) to 52 Nm (38 ft. lbs.).

5. Insert parking brake caliper end of cable through caliper bracket (2) and slide cable housing (1) into caliper bracket.
6. Install cable end into apply lever on caliper.
7. Grasp parking brake cable between cable housing and apply lever and pull outward until enough slack is present to install cable onto pivot wheel. Once on wheel, push any extra cable back into cable housing.

8. Install wheel and tire assembly Tires and Wheels - Installation. Progressively tighten wheel mounting nuts in proper sequence to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.).
9. Lower vehicle to a level where rear tires just clear floor.

WARNING: The automatic adjusting feature of this parking brake lever contains a clockspring loaded to approximately 19 pounds. Do not release the automatic adjuster lockout device unless the parking brake cables and equalizer are connected to the lever output cable. Keep hands out of automatic adjuster sector and pawl area. Failure to observe caution in handling this mechanism could lead to serious injury.

10. Ensure that parking brake cables are correctly installed on equalizer and aligned with cable track on parking brake lever.
11. Keeping hands clear of automatic adjuster sector and pawl area, firmly grasp screwdriver (pin punch or locking pin if a new lever has been installed) (1) installed in lever mechanism, then quickly remove it from parking brake lever (2) mechanism. This action allows parking brake lever mechanism to automatically take up any slack.
12. Cycle parking brake lever (2) once to position parking brake cables, then return lever its released position.

13. Check rear wheels of vehicle. They should rotate freely without dragging with lever in released position.
14. Fully apply parking brake lever.
15. Check rear wheels of vehicle. They should not rotate with lever in full-applied position.
16. Lower vehicle.
17. Install center console. Center Console - Installation
18. Remove blocks from tire and wheel assemblies.
