Passenger Off Indicator Circuit Short To Ground

PASSENGER OFF INDICATOR CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND

- When Monitored:
When the ignition is on, the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) monitors the (R166) Passenger Airbag Indicator Driver circuit for appropriate voltage.

- Set Condition:
The code will set if the ORC is no voltage on the (R166) Passenger Airbag Indicator Driver circuit.

Always perform the Pre-Diagnostic Troubleshooting procedure before proceeding. Restraints System Pre-Diagnostic Procedure

1. DETERMINE ACTIVE OR STORED DTC

NOTE: Ensure that the battery is fully charged.

1. Turn the ignition on.
2. With the scan tool, read the ORC DTC.

SELECT ACTIVE or STORED DTC:

ACTIVE DTC

- Go To 2

STORED DTC

- Perform *RESTRAINTS SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST. Restraint System Intermittent Test

2. VERIFY FUSE C4
1. Remove and inspect the PDC C4 Fuse.

Is the C4 Fuse open?

Yes

- Go To 7

No

- Go To 3

3. VERIFY SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR VOLTAGE

1. Measure the voltage on the (A21) Ignition Switch Output (Run/Start) circuit between the PDC C4 Fuse supply side and ground.

Is the voltage above 11 volts?

Yes

- Go To 4

No

- Repair the open (A21) Ignition Switch Output (Run/Start) circuit.
- Reinstall the PDC C4 Fuse.
- Perform *RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Restraints System Verification Test

4. VERIFY CLUSTER GAUGE PACK SUPPLY CIRCUIT

WARNING: Turn the ignition off disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

1. Disconnect the Cluster Gauge Pack C1 connector.

NOTE: Check connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.

WARNING: Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

2. Measure the voltage on the (G5) Fused Ignition Switch Output (Run/Start) circuit between the Gauge Pack C1 connector cavity 3 and ground.

Is the voltage above 11 volts?

Yes

- Go To 5

No

- Repair the open (G5) Fused Ignition Switch Output (Run/Start) circuit.
- Perform *RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Restraints System Verification Test

5. VERIFY INDICATOR DRIVER CIRCUIT

WARNING: Turn the ignition off disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

1. Connect the Cluster Gauge Pack C1 connector.
2. Disconnect the ORC connectors.

NOTE: Check connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.

3. Connect the Load Tool ORC 8443-25 Adaptor to the ORC connectors.

WARNING: Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

4. Measure the voltage of the (R166) Passenger Airbag Indicator Driver circuit between the 8443-25 Adaptor cavity C1 (24)-6 and ground.

Is the voltage above 10 volts?

Yes

- WARNING: Turn the ignition off disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

- WARNING: If the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) is dropped at any time, it must be replaced. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

- Replace the Occupant Restraint Controller.
- Perform *RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Restraints System Verification Test

No

- Go To 6

6. VERIFY OPEN CLUSTER GAUGE PACK CIRCUIT

WARNING: Turn the ignition off disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

1. Disconnect the Cluster Gauge Pack C1 connector.
2. Measure the resistance of the (R166) Passenger Airbag Indicator Driver circuit between the Cluster Gauge Pack C1 connector cavity 1 and the 8443-25 Adaptor cavity C1 (24)-6.

Is the below 5 Ohms?

Yes

- Replace the open Cluster Gauge Pack.
