MODELS:

2008 - 2010 (LX) Charger (Police Only)

NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicles built before January 29, 2010 equipped with POLICE GROUP (sales code AHB) and ENTIRE FLEET ALIKE KEY - FREQ 1 (Sales code GXF)

NOTE:

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

^ Unable to lock and/or unlock the doors using RKE without turning off the ignition after the vehicle has been in motion.

^ Inability to program any new FOBIKs to the vehicle.

DIAGNOSIS:

If any of the Symptom/Conditions are present, perform the following Diagnosis.

1. Using a Scan Tool (wiTECH TM) with the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures available in TechCONNECT, verify no DTC's are set. If DTC's are present record them on the repair order and repair as necessary before proceeding further with this bulletin.

2. Using wiTECH(TM) determine the WIN's Variant Code. The Variant Code can be found under WCM, ECU details.

3. Is the Variant Code 04? (Variant Code 04) indicates a Continental Siemens module.

a. Yes >>> Perform the Repair Procedure.

b. No >> This Service Bulletin does not apply. Further diagnosis may be required.

PARTS REQUIRED:

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

NOTE:
Install a battery charger to ensure battery voltage does not drop below 13.2 volts. Do not allow the charging voltage to climb above 13.5 volts during the flash process.

NOTE:
If this flash process is interrupted/aborted, the flash should be restarted.

WARNING:
If this flash process is interrupted/aborted, Do NOT cycle the ignition. The diagnostic session requires the WIN to report the ignition position and with a failed/aborted flash the WIN can not report the ignition position. Cycling the key will result in a vehicle off road condition and Technical Advisor intervention and/or WIN replacement will be required.

Flash File Selection

Two different Flash Up-Date revisions are available. They are only available for Police WINs. Each Flash Up-Date revision addresses a specific condition. The WIN should only be flashed to one of the following revisions. It is critical that only the correct option for the application is selected.

Revision A. This revision permits FOB 1K RKE operation after the vehicle has been in motion without requiring that the ignition be turned off. This allows Police to lock the vehicle by using the FOB 1K RKE after a pursuit condition without turning off the engine.

Revision B. This revision includes the same added RKE feature of Revision A AND removes all existing FOB 1K RKE protocol from the WIN and replaces it with a new protocol. This change allows the Police only WIN to be programmed to use currently available FOBIKs. This option should only be used if all existing FOBIKs will be replaced.

CAUTION:
Revision B should only be used when all existing FOBIKs are lost or additional new FOBIKs are required for the vehicle. After this revision is applied, all original FOBIKs will no longer be functional as RKE transmitters. New FOBIKS will then be required for RKE operation. The original FOBIKs will however still start the vehicle. Operation of the vehicle with blade keys is unchanged.

Perform Software Reflash

NOTE:
Install a battery charger to ensure battery voltage does not drop below 13.2 volts. Do not allow the charging voltage to climb above 13.5 volts during the flash process.

NOTE:
If this flash process is interrupted/aborted, the flash should be restarted.

1. 1. With the WiTECH select "WCM from the Topology View.

2. 2. Select the Flash tab. Flash the WIN with the appropriate software selection. Help using the wiTECH diagnostic application for flashing an ECU is available by selecting "Help" then "Help Contents" at the top of the wiTECH diagnostic application window.

3. Was the module flashed with revision B? (If Revision B was selected new FOBIKS must be programmed to the WIN).

a. Yes >>> Proceed to Step # 4

b. No >>> Proceed to Step # 11

4. Insert a new FOBIK into the WIN and place the ignition in the "RUN" position

5. With the WiTECH select "WCM" from the Topology View.

6. Select "Misc Functions".

7. Highlight "Program Ignition Keys or Key FOBs", then select "Start", Select "Next".

8. When prompted enter the Personal Identification Number (PIN) for that vehicle.

9. Select "Ok" once the PIN has been entered. Follow the screen prompts to complete the process.

NOTE:
After the first FOBIK has been programmed, follow the screen prompts to program additional RKE transmitters as required.

10. Select "Finish after the last FOBIK has been programmed.

NOTE:
Due to the RKE transmitter programming procedure, DTC(s) may be set in other modules within the vehicle.

11. Clear any DTC's that may have been set in other modules due to reprogramming. The wiTECH application will automatically present all DTC's after the flash and allow the tech to clear them.

Verify Software Reflash

1. 1. Revision A verification. Drive vehicle above 10 MPH. Stop vehicle and place gearshift in park. Without turning off the ignition press the lock/unlock buttons on the FOB 1K. If the door locks cycle, the procedure was successful.

2. 2. Revision B verification. Drive vehicle above 10 MPH. Stop vehicle and place gearshift in park. Without turning off the ignition press the lock/unlock buttons on the new FOBIKS. If the door locks cycle with the new FOBIKs, the procedure was successful.
