Pinion Gear/Ring Gear - Removal
REMOVAL
NOTE: The ring and pinion gears are serviced as a matched set. Never replace one gear without replacing the other matched gear.
1. Remove rear axle assembly.
2. Remove differential from axle housing.
3. Remove ring gear bolts (1) and ring gear (2) from differential case.
4. Using Holder 6719A (1) to hold yoke (2) and remove pinion nut and washer.
5. Remove pinion yoke (1) with Remover C-452 (2).
6. Remove pinion gear (1) from housing with Driver 8976 (2).
7. Remove pinion seal with seal puller.
8. Remove oil slinger (1) from housing.
9. Remove front pinion bearing (1) from housing.
10. Remove front pinion bearing cup with Remover D-103 (1) and Handle C-4171 (2).
11. Remove rear pinion bearing cup with Remover C-4307 (1) and Handle C-4171 (2).
12. Remove collapsible spacer (1) from the pinion gear (2).
13. Remove rear pinion bearing with Puller C-293-PA (1) and Adapters C-293-47 (2).
14. Remove pinion depth shims (1) from pinion gear (2) and record thickness of shim.
