Front Lower Control Arm - Installation
INSTALLATION
NOTE: When installing cam bolts (2) and washers (3), be sure holes in cams are located at 12 O'clock.
1. Position lower control arm (5) in mounting brackets on frame. Install cam bolts (2) as shown through mounting brackets. Install cam washers (3) and nuts. DO NOT FULLY TIGHTEN CAM BOLT NUTS AT THIS TIME.
2. Install lower ball joint stud into steering knuckle. Install and tighten lower ball joint castle nut (4) to 160 Nm (118 ft. lbs.). Once nut is tightened to specified torque, it may be necessary to continue tightening nut to allow installation of cotter pin through nut castle and hole in ball joint stud (DO NOT LOOSEN NUT).
3. Install cotter pin (2) through lower ball joint castle nut and stud.
4. Install shock assembly (6) into mounting bracket on lower control arm (5). Install shock assembly mounting bolt and nut. DO NOT TIGHTEN MOUNTING BOLT AT THIS TIME.
5. Install stabilizer bar link (4) into mounting hole on lower control arm (5). Install stabilizer bar link nut and tighten to 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.).
6. Install ABS wheel speed sensor head (2) in steering knuckle (1). Install and tighten mounting bolt (3) to 11 Nm (100 in. lbs.).
7. Install brake rotor and brake caliper on knuckle. Brake Rotor - Installation
8. Install wheel and tire assembly Tires and Wheels - Installation. Progressively tighten wheel mounting nuts in proper sequence to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.).
9. Lower vehicle.
10. Position vehicle on alignment rack/drive-on hoist.
11. Set vehicle to design height. Service and Repair.
12. Tighten shock assembly lower mounting bolt to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.).
13. Perform wheel alignment Service and Repair. Once camber and caster have been set, tighten lower control arm cam bolt nuts to 102 Nm (75 ft. lbs.) torque.
14. Road test vehicle to ensure proper operation.
