Accumulator - Description

DESCRIPTION

To protect the A/C compressor from any liquid slugging, an A/C accumulator is used to retain any refrigerant that may exit from the A/C evaporator in a liquid state. The A/C accumulator is positioned between the A/C evaporator and the A/C compressor and is located on the passenger side frame rail.

The A/C accumulator consists of a aluminum housing (1) containing a desiccant bag and filter, an integral mounting bracket (4) and a fitting for the A/C low pressure switch (2). A heat shield (3) helps prevent the refrigerant from returning to a liquid state prior to entering the A/C compressor.
