Remote Keyless Entry Problem
REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY PROBLEM
For a complete wiring diagram, refer to the Wiring Information Electrical Diagrams
1. DTC PRESENT
1. With the scan tool, read the DTCs.
Does the scan tool display any RKE related trouble codes?
Yes
- Perform the appropriate diagnostic procedure. Body Control System.
No
- Go To 2
2. TRANSMITTER
1. Using the 9001 RF Detector (or equivalent) tool, test the transmitter.
Does the signal strength register STRONG?
No
- Test the batteries. If the batteries are okay, replace and program the transmitter.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.
Yes
- Go To 3
3. (M1) IOD - B(+) CIRCUIT OPEN
1. Gain access to the RKE module.
2. Turn the ignition off and disconnect the RKE module connector.
3. Measure the voltage between the (M1) IOD - B(+) circuit and ground.
Is the voltage above 10.0 volts?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
- Repair the (M1) IOD - B(+) circuit for an open.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.
4. (Z943) GROUND CIRCUIT OPEN
1. Using a 12-volt test light connected to 12-volts, check the (Z943) Ground circuit in the RKE module connector.
Does the test light illuminate brightly?
Yes
- Go To 5
No
- Repair the (Z943) Ground circuit for an open.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.
5. (G96) RKE INTERFACE CIRCUIT OPEN
NOTE: Ensure the transmission is in park position before proceeding.
1. Ensure the ignition is on.
2. Measure the voltage between the (G96) Remote Keyless Entry Interface circuit and ground.
Is the voltage above 4.8 volts?
Yes
- Replace the Remote Keyless Entry Module and program all transmitters used with this vehicle.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.
No
- Go To 6
6. (G96) RKE INTERFACE WIRE OPEN
1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Disconnect the Body Control Module C3 connector.
3. Measure the resistance of the (G96) Remote Keyless Entry Interface wire between the BCM C3 connector and the RKE module connector.
Is the resistance below 2.0 ohms?
Yes
- Go To 7
No
- Repair the (G96) Remote Keyless Entry Interface wire for an open.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.
7. (G96) RKE INTERFACE WIRE SHORT TO GROUND
1. Measure the resistance between ground and the (G96) Remote Keyless Entry Interface circuit.
Is the resistance below 2,000 ohms?
Yes
- Repair the (G96) Remote Keyless Entry Interface wire for a short to ground.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.
No
- Replace the Body Control Module.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.
