Passenger Off Indicator Circuit Short To Battery

PASSENGER OFF INDICATOR CIRCUIT SHORT TO BATTERY

For a complete wiring diagram refer to the Wiring Information Electrical Diagrams.

- When Monitored:
When the ignition is on, the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) monitors the (R166) Passenger Airbag Indicator Driver circuit for appropriate voltage.

- Set Condition:
The code will set if the ORC senses battery voltage on the (R166) Passenger Airbag Indicator Driver circuit.

Always perform the Pre-Diagnostic Troubleshooting procedure before proceeding. Restraints System Pre-Diagnostic Procedure.

1. DETERMINE ACTIVE OR STORED DTC

NOTE: Ensure that the battery is fully charged.

1. Turn the ignition on.
2. With the scan tool, read the ORC DTC.

SELECT ACTIVE or STORED DTC:

ACTIVE DTC

- Go To 2

STORED DTC

- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST. Restraints System Intermittent Test.

2. VERIFY PAB INDICATOR DRIVER CIRCUIT VOLTAGE

WARNING: Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

1. Disconnect the Cluster Gauge Pack C1 connector.

NOTE: Check connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.

2. Disconnect the ORC connectors.
3. Connect the Load Tool ORC 8443-25 Adaptor to the ORC connectors.

WARNING: Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

4. Measure the voltage on the (R166) Passenger airbag Indicator Driver circuit between the Cluster Gauge Pack C1 connector cavity 1 and ground.

Is the there any voltage present?

Yes

- Repair the (R166) Passenger airbag Indicator Driver circuit short to battery or the (G5) Fused Ignition Switch Output (Run/Start) circuit.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Restraints System Verification Test.

No

- Go To 3

3. VERIFY CLUSTER GAUGE PACK CIRCUIT

1. Reconnect the Cluster Gauge Pack C1 connector
2. Measure the voltage of the (R166) Passenger Airbag Indicator Driver circuit between the 8443-25 Adaptor cavity C1 (24)-6 and ground.

Is the voltage above 11 volts?

Yes

- Replace the Cluster Gauge Pack.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Restraints System Verification Test.

No

- WARNING: Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

- WARNING: If the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) is dropped at any time, it must be replaced. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

- Replace the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC).
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Restraints System Verification Test.
