50-PASSENGER WINDOW HALL EFFECT FAILURE





For a complete wiring diagram, refer to the Wiring Information Electrical Diagrams

- When Monitored:
Whenever the passenger window is operating.

- Set Condition:
The hall effect sensor, in the window motor, sends an alternating signal (open/closed) to the BCM whenever the motor is running. When there is no hall effect signal to the BCM from the window motor, this code will set.





1. DTC PRESENT

NOTE: If there are any other Passenger Power Window DTC's present, diagnose those DTC's before proceeding with this code.

1. Turn the ignition on.
2. With the scan tool, erase the DTCs.
3. Cycle the ignition switch from Off to Run.
4. Operate the Passenger Window Motor.
5. With the scan tool, read the DTCs.

Does the scan tool display 50-PASSENGER WINDOW HALL EFFECT FAILURE?

Yes

- Go To 2

No

- The condition that caused the code to set is not present at this time. Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

2. MOTOR OPERATIONAL
1. Turn the ignition on.
2. With the scan tool, actuate the Passenger Window Down and Up.

Does the Passenger Window go Up and Down?

Yes

- Go To 3

No

- Go To 7

3. (Z912) WINDOW HALL EFFECT GROUND WIRE OPEN




1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Disconnect the Passenger Window Motor connector.
3. Measure the resistance between ground and the (Z912) Ground circuit.

Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms?

Yes

- Go To 4

No

- Repair the (Z912) Ground circuit for an open.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

4. SWITCH OPEN




1. Turn the ignition on.
2. With the scan tool in Inputs/Outputs, read the PASS WINDOW HALL state.
3. While observing the scan tool, momentarily connect and disconnect a jumper wire between the (Q302) Passenger Window Hall Signal circuit and the (Z912) Ground circuit.

Does the scan tool display a toggle between OPEN and CLOSED?

Yes

- Replace the Window Motor.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

No

- Go To 5

5. (Q302) PASSENGER WINDOW HALL SIGNAL WIRE OPEN




1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Disconnect the BCM C3 harness connector.
3. Measure the resistance of the (Q302) Passenger Window Hall Signal circuit between the Motor connector and the BCM C3 connector.

Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms?

Yes

- Go To 6

No

- Repair the (Q302) Passenger Window Hall Signal circuit for an open.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

6. (Q302) PASSENGER WINDOW HALL SIGNAL WIRE SHORT TO GROUND




1. Measure the resistance between ground and the (Q302) Passenger Window Hall Signal circuit in the BCM C3 connector.

Is the resistance below 10,000 ohms?

No

- Replace the Body Control Module.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

Yes

- Repair the (Q302) Passenger Window Hall Signal circuit for a short to ground.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

7. PASSENGER WINDOW MOTOR OPEN




1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Disconnect the Window Motor connector.
3. Turn the ignition on.
4. Connect a 12-volt test light between the (Q112) Passenger Window Up Relay Output and the (Q122) Passenger Window Down Relay Output circuits in the motor connector.
5. Press the Passenger Window Switch UP and DOWN.

Does the test light illuminate brightly when the switch is in either position?

Yes

- Replace the Passenger Power Window Motor.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

No

- Go To 8

8. (Q122) PASSENGER WINDOW DOWN RELAY OUTPUT CKT OPEN




1. Using a 12-volt test light connected to ground, check the (Q122) Passenger Window Down Relay Output circuit.
2. Press the window switch to the Down position while observing the test light.

Does the test light illuminate brightly when the switch is pressed?

Yes

- Go To 9

No

- Go To 13

9. (Q112) PASSENGER WINDOW UP RELAY OUTPUT CIRCUIT OPEN




1. Using a 12-volt test light connected to ground, check the (Q112) Passenger Window Up Relay Output circuit.
2. Press the window switch to the Up position and observe the test light.

Does the test light illuminate brightly when the switch is pressed?

Yes

- Go To 10

No

- Go To 12

10. (Z971) PASSENGER WINDOW UP RELAY GROUND OPEN




1. Using a 12-volt test light connected to 12 volts, check the (Z971) Ground circuit by probing the (Q112) Passenger Window Up Relay Output circuit.

Does the test light illuminate brightly?

Yes

- Go To 11

No

- Remove the Up relay and check both of the (Z971) Window Up Relay Ground circuits. Repair as necessary. If the ground circuits are good, replace the Passenger Window Up Relay.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

11. (Z971) PASSENGER WINDOW DOWN RELAY GROUND OPEN




1. Using a 12-volt test light connected to 12 volts, check the (Z971) Ground circuit by probing the (Q122) Passenger Window Down Relay Output circuit.

Does the test light illuminate brightly?

Yes

- Test Complete.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

No

- Remove the Down relay and check the (Z971) Window Down Relay Ground circuit. Repair as necessary. If the ground is good, replace the Passenger Window Down Relay.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

12. (Q112) PASSENGER WINDOW UP RELAY OUTPUT WIRE OPEN




1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Remove the Passenger Window Up Relay
3. Measure the resistance of the (Q112) Passenger Window Up Relay Output circuit between the Relay connector and the Window Motor connector.

Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms?

Yes

- Replace the Passenger Window Up Relay.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

No

- Repair the (Q112) Passenger Window Up Relay Output wire for an open.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

13. (Q122) PASSENGER WINDOW DOWN RELAY OUTPUT WIRE OPEN




1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Remove the Passenger Down Relay
3. Measure the resistance of the (Q122) Passenger Window Down Relay Output circuit between the Relay connector and the Passenger Window Motor connector.

Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms?

Yes

- Replace the Passenger Window Down Relay.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

No

- Repair the (Q122) Passenger Window Down Relay Output wire for an open.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.
