B2206-CURRENT VIN MISSING/MISMATCH

For a complete wiring diagram refer to the Wiring Information Electrical Diagrams.

Theory of Operation

When powered, the Occupant Classification Module (OCM) monitors the CAN BUS for a Powertrain Control Module (PCM) broadcast message containing the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). For a new OCM the VIN will be latched as the Original VIN and Current VIN after 10 ignition cycles. During each power-up the OCM monitors the BUS message for a valid VIN, if the VIN is missing the DTC will be set active.

- When Monitored:
During power-up and the odometer over 50 miles, the OCM monitors the PCM VIN message.

This DTC will set if the VIN is missing.

Always perform the Pre-Diagnostic Troubleshooting procedure before proceeding. Restraints System Pre-Diagnostic Procedure.

1. CHECK FOR ACTIVE DTC

NOTE: Ensure that the battery is fully charged.

1. With the scan tool, read the OCM DTC.

SELECT ACTIVE or STORED DTC:

ACTIVE DTC

- Go To 2

STORED DTC

- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST. Restraints System Intermittent Test.

2. CHECK THE VIN STORED IN THE PCM
1. With the scan tool, compare the VIN that is stored in the PCM to the vehicle's VIN plate.

Does the VIN stored in the PCM match the vehicle's VIN?

Yes

- Go To 3

No

- Replace and configure the Powertrain Control Module.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. PCM Verification Test.

3. RESET OCM
1. Verify that the passenger seat is empty.
2. Tun the ignition OFF, wait 2 minutes, then turn the ignition ON.
3. With the scan tool, select OCM RESET (this will force the OCM to restart).
4. With the scan tool, read OCM DTC.

Does the scan tool display active: B2206-CURRENT VIN MISSING/MISMATCH?

Yes

- WARNING: Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

- WARNING: If the Occupant Classification Module (OCM) is dropped at any time, it must be replaced. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

- Replace the OCM.
- Perform the OCM REZERO. Testing and Inspection.

No

- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Restraints System Verification Test.
