B1BA7
B1BA7-OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM VERIFICATION REQUIRED
For a complete wiring diagram refer to the Wiring Information Electrical Diagrams.
Theory of Operation
When powered, the Occupant Classification Module (OCM) monitors the deployment status BUS message from the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) to determine when a deployment event occurs. Based on this bus message the OCM sets the B1BA7-Occupant Classification System Verification Required DTC to active. Before performing the OCM Rezero procedure replace all deployed airbags and tensioners and repair all other ORC and OCM active DTC. Also refer to the Service Information for the list of components that must be inspected or replaced after a airbag deployment.
- When Monitored:
With the ignition on, the OCM monitors the deployment status bus message from the ORC to detect a deployment.
- Set Condition:
The Occupant Classification Module (OCM) will set this DTC if the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) broadcasts the airbag deployment message on the Bus (deployment event occurred).
Always perform the Pre-Diagnostic Troubleshooting procedure before proceeding. Restraints System Pre-Diagnostic Procedure.
1. VERIFY POST DEPLOYMENT REPAIRS
NOTE: Ensure that the battery is fully charged.
NOTE: Verify that the scan tool has the latest software update before proceeding with this test.
NOTE: If any airbags have been deployed, make sure all components related to the deployment have been inspected or replaced.
NOTE: Correct all active ORC DTC except the Interrogate OCM, and Driver and Passenger STPS DTC in OCM DTC, before performing this procedure.
NOTE: Correct all active OCM DTC except the B1BA7-OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM VERIFICATION REQUIRED, and B1BA8-OCM OUT OF CALIBRATION/NOT CALIBRATED DTC, before performing this procedure.
NOTE: Make sure that the passenger seat is empty and in the full rearward position before performing this procedure.
NOTE: Make sure the vehicle is setting level and the interior is at room temperature.
NOTE: Make sure the Passenger Seat Belt is unbuckled and completely retracted.

- WARNING: Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
WARNING: If the Occupant Classification Module (OCM) is dropped at any time, it must be replaced. Failure to take the proper precautions could result in accidental airbag deployment and serious or fatal injury.
CAUTION: Disconnecting or connecting the OCM connectors with the battery connected permanently damages the OCM.
- Replace the OCM.
- Perform the OCM REZERO. Testing and Inspection.
