B1B97-PASSENGER SEAT TRACK POSITION SENSOR CONFIGURATION MISMATCH

For a complete wiring diagram refer to the Wiring Information Electrical Diagrams.

Theory of Operation

When powered, the Occupant Classification module (OCM) sends a test current to the Passenger Seat Track Position Sensors terminals. During this test, the sensors discovered are checked for agreement with the pre-programmed configuration of components assigned to the module.

- When Monitored:
The OCM checks for the presence of Passenger Seat Track Position Sensors circuits once at every power up, during the initialization process.

- Set Condition:
This DTC sets when the OCM is not configured for a Passenger Seat Track Position Sensor and the OCM detects a valid Passenger Seat Track Position Sensor present.

Always perform the Pre-Diagnostic Troubleshooting procedure before proceeding. Restraints System Pre-Diagnostic Procedure.

1. VERIFY THAT B1B97-PASSENGER SEAT TRACK POSITION SENSOR CONFIGURATION MISMATCH IS ACTIVE

NOTE: Ensure the battery is fully charged.

1. With the scan tool, read OCM DTC.

Does the scan tool display any active B1B97-PASSENGER SEAT TRACK POSITION SENSOR CONFIGURATION MISMATCH?

Yes

- Go To 2

No

- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Restraints System Verification Test.

2. VERIFY OCM PART NUMBER
1. With the scan tool, read the OCM part number.

Does the OCM have the correct part number for this vehicle?

Yes

- Go To 3

No

- WARNING: Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

- WARNING: If the Occupant Classification Module (OCM) is dropped at any time, it must be replaced. Failure to take the proper precautions can result in accidental airbag deployment and serious or fatal injury.

- CAUTION: Disconnecting or connecting the OCM connectors with the battery connected permanently damages the OCM.

- Replace the OCM.
- Perform the OCM REZERO. Testing and Inspection.

3. INSPECT PASSENGER SEAT HARNESS WIRES AND CONNECTORS

WARNING: Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

1. Using the wiring diagram / schematic as a guide, inspect the Passenger Seat wiring and connectors. Look for chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires and broken, bent, pushed out, spread, corroded, or contaminated terminals.

Are any of these conditions present?

Yes

- Go To 4

No

- Replace the Passenger Seat wiring.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Restraints System Verification Test.

4. VERIFY SENSOR CONFIGURATION
1. Disconnect the Passenger Seat Position Sensor.

WARNING: Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

2. With the scan tool, read OCM DTC.

Does the scan tool display active: B1B97-PASSENGER SEAT TRACK POSITION SENSOR CONFIGURATION MISMATCH?

Yes

- WARNING: If the Occupant Classification Module (OCM) is dropped at any time, it must be replaced. Failure to take the proper precautions can result in accidental airbag deployment and serious or fatal injury.

- CAUTION: Disconnecting or connecting the OCM connectors with the battery connected permanently damages the OCM.

- Replace the OCM.
- Perform the OCM REZERO. Testing and Inspection.

No

- Tape the Passenger Seat Position Sensor connector and harness to the seat.
- Remove the Passenger Seat Position Sensor.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Restraints System Verification Test.
