StarMOBILE DESKTOP CLIENT or StarSCAN MAY ALSO BE USED TO PERFORM THIS PROCEDURE.

SUBJECT:
Flash: MIL Illumination And/Or MDS Driveability Improvements And/Or Shift Improvements

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves selectively erasing and reprogramming the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and Transmission Control Module (1CM) with new software.

MODELS:

2009 (LC) Challenger

2009 (LE) 300C/300 Touring (International Markets)

2009 (LX) 300/300C / Magnum / Charger

NOTE:
This bulletin applies to LC/LE/LX vehicles equipped with a 5.7L engine and automatic transmission (Sales code EZD or EZH or EZC and DGJ) or LC vehicles equipped with a 5.7L engine and six speed manual transmission (Sales code EZC and DEC).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customers may experience:

a. A MIL illumination for the following Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC), listed in the MIL Illumination section below.

b. The vehicle has a harsh engagement or has a buck/jerking feeling, MDS transitions have been enhanced from V8 to V4 and V4 to V8 at all ambient temperatures in all operating ranges. These enhancements were made to make the transition less noticeable by the customer.

c. Drone or groan sound while the engine transitions from V4 to V8 operation (EZD and EZH engines)

d. **Additional low speed or garage shift improvements (EZD and EZH engines)**

e. RPM increase after depressing the clutch (EZC engines)

f. Improved engine temperature control in desert climates (EZD, EZH and EZC engines)

g. **Improved autostick up/down shifting (EZD, EZH and EZC engines)**

h. **1-2 and 2-3 upshifts (EZD, EZH and EZC engines)**

i. **Harsh 2-1 down shift (LC vehicles only)**

j. **Upshift bump. This condition occurs after a moderate to heavy acceleration, followed by the driver lightly or completely lifting their foot off the accelerator. This bump can be felt when the above conditions are meet for the 1-2, 2-3 or 3-4 upshifts (EZD, EZH and EZC engines)**
Upon further investigation the Technician may also find that P1521 - Incorrect Engine Oil Type has been set on EZH engines only.

MIL Illumination:

1. P0016 - Crankshaft/Camshaft Timing Misalignment - Bank 1 Sensor 1 (EZD or EZC engines)

2. P0420 - Catalyst Efficiency (Bank 1) (EZD engines)

3. P0430 - Catalyst Efficiency (Bank 2) (EZD engines)

4. P2096 - Downstream Fuel Trim System 1 Lean (EZD and EZC engines)

5. P2098 - Downstream Fuel Trim System 2 Lean (EZD and EZC engines)

6. P2097 - Downstream Fuel Trim System 1 Rich (EZD and EZC engines)

7. P2099 - Downstream Fuel Trim System 2 Rich (EZD and EZC engines)

8. P0524 - MDS Oil pressure rationality (EZD engines)

9. P2610 - PCM Internal Engine Off Timer Performance (EZD, EZH and EZC engines)

10. P0128 - Thermostat Rationality (EZD Engines)

11. P0501 - Vehicle Speed Sensor 1 Performance (EZC engines)

12. **P0171 - Fuel System 1/1 Lean (EZD, EZH and EZC engines)**

13. **P0174 - Fuel System 2/1 Lean (EZD, EZH and EZC engines)**

DIAGNOSIS:
Using a Scan Tool (wiTECH or StarSCAN(R)) with the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures available in TechCONNECT, verify all engine systems are functioning as designed. If DTC's are present other then the ones listed above record them on the repair order and repair as necessary before proceeding further with this bulletin.

If the above condition is present, perform the Repair Procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

NOTE:
If this flash process is interrupted/aborted, the flash should be restarted.

1. Reprogram the PCM with the latest software. Follow the detailed service procedures available in DealerCONNECT/TechCONNECT, Refer To Group 8 - Electrical > Electronic Control Modules - Service Information > Module - Powertrain Control > Standard Procedures> PCM/ECM Programming - Gas. After PCM reprogramming, the following must be performed:

a. Clear any DTC's that may have been set in other modules due to reprogramming. The wiTECH application will automatically present all DTCs after the flash and allow the tech to clear them.

2. Type the necessary information on the "Authorized Modification Label and attach it near the VECI label.

POLICY:
Reimbursable within the provisions of the warranty.
