Engine - Removal






REMOVAL





1. Remove the engine covers (1).
2. Perform the Fuel System Pressure Release procedure Service and Repair





3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.





4. Remove the air cleaner housing (1) and clean air tube (2).
5. Remove the cowl top panel Cowl Panel Cover - Removal
6. Drain cooling system Service and Repair
7. Remove the accessory drive belt Serpentine Accessory Drive Belt - Removal
8. Remove radiator fan Cooling Fan - Removal





9. Remove the A/C compressor (3) A/C Compressor - Removal
10. Remove the A/C suction line A/C Suction Line - Removal
11. Remove the A/C liquid line from extension lines and set aside A/C Liquid Line - Removal
12. Remove the A/C discharge line at compressor and set aside A/C Discharge Line - Removal





13. Remove the engine mount heat shield retaining bolt (2) and heat shield (1).





14. Remove the generator support bracket (1).





15. Remove the generator (2) Generator - Removal






NOTE: It is not necessary to disconnect power steering pump hoses from power steering pump for power steering pump removal.

16. Remove the three power steering pump (1) mounting bolts (2) through the access holes in the pulley Power Steering Pump - Removal
17. Remove the upper and lower radiator hoses.
18. Remove the right and left knock sensors.
19. Remove the oil temperature sensor connector.
20. Remove the oil pressure sensor connector.
21. Remove the camshaft position sensor connector.





22. Remove the heater hoses (1,2).
23. Remove the fuel injector connectors.
24. Remove the map sensor connector.
25. Remove the coolant temp sensor connector Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor - Removal





26. Remove the ignition coil connectors (1).
27. Remove the capacitor connector and ground.






NOTE: Remove the intake manifold and throttle body as an assembly.

28. Using the sequence shown, remove the intake manifold retaining fasteners.
29. Remove the intake manifold and throttle body as an assembly Intake Manifold - Removal
30. Remove the ground wires from the rear of each cylinder head.





31. Remove the belly pan (2) Belly Pan - Removal
32. Disconnect the fuel supply line Service and Repair
33. Remove the right and left side engine wiring harness, and set aside.
34. Raise and support the vehicle on a hoist and drain the engine oil.
35. Remove the crankshaft position sensor connector.





36. Remove the engine front mount to frame nuts.
37. Disconnect the transmission oil cooler lines from their retainers at the oil pan bolts.






CAUTION: When separating the exhaust pipes from the manifolds, disconnect the oxygen sensor connector(s). Allowing the exhaust pipes hanging from the oxygen sensor wires damages the harness and/or sensor.

38. Disconnect the oxygen sensor electrical connectors (2).
39. Saturate all exhaust bolts and nuts with Mopar(R) Rust Penetrant. Allow five minutes for penetration.
40. Remove the exhaust pipe to the manifold bolts (3) and separate the exhaust pipes (4) from the exhaust manifolds.





41. Disconnect the starter wires and remove the starter motor (1) Starter - Removal





42. Remove the inspection cover (1).





43. Remove the drive plate to converter bolts (1) Removal





44. Remove the transmission to oil pan bolts (1) Removal





45. Remove the transmission bell housing to engine block bolts (2) Removal





46. Lower the vehicle.
47. Remove the left coolant tube.

NOTE: Do not use air tools to install engine lift fixture.

48. Install the engine lift fixture 8984A (2) and adapter 8984-UPD (4).
49. Separate engine from transmission and remove the engine from the vehicle.
50. Install the engine assembly on a suitable repair stand.
