Switch-Exterior Door Handle
EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE SWITCH
Any diagnosis of the Power Locks system should begin with the use of a scan tool and the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures.
NOTE: The driver side exterior handle has a separate input to the Body Control Module (BCM). The driver side interior handle and the door lock switch are tied to one input into the BCM. The passenger side exterior handle, interior handle and the door lock switch are tied to one input to the BCM. If any one of these switches sets a stuck fault in the BCM, repair this switch input before diagnosing any of the other switches.
Refer to the appropriate wiring information.
1. Remove the exterior door handle Front Door Exterior Handle - Removal.
2. Use an ohmmeter to test switch resistance between pins.
3. Depress handle.
4. Test resistance between pins. Ohmmeter should show 0 (continuity) on the drivers door and 8K Ohm ± 5% on the passenger door.
NOTE: Do not replace the exterior handle with an 8K Ohm Resistor!
5. Test resistance between pins while handle is in the unactuated mode. Ohmmeter should show an open condition.
6. If resistance values are not within the parameters, replace the exterior door handle switch.
