Engine Controls - MIL On/DTC P0300/Limp Home Mode

THE StarSCAN(R) FLASH FILES FOR THIS BULLETIN MUST BE RETRIEVED FROM THE INTERNET.

StarSCAN(R) SOFTWARE LEVEL MUST BE AT RELEASE 8.04 OR HIGHER.

StarMOBILE DESKTOP CLIENT -OR- StarMOBILE STANDALONE MODE MAY ALSO BE USED TO PERFORM THE FLASH.

SUBJECT:

Flash: MIL Illumination with DTC P0300 - Multiple Cylinder Misfire Set

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves selectively erasing and reprogramming the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and performing the Learn ETC routine with the StarSCAN(R).

CAUTION:
Be sure to follow the Repair Procedure steps in the order listed.

MODELS:

2008 (ZB) Viper

NOTE:
This bulletin applies to models equipped with a 8.4L engine (Sales Code EWE) built prior to April 1, 2008 (MDH 0401XX).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Some customers may experience MIL illumination along with a limp in condition with limited power after the MIL. Further investigation by the technician may find Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0300 - Multiple Cylinder Misfire is set.

DIAGNOSIS:
Using a scan tool with the appropriate diagnostic procedures available in TechCONNECT verify all engine systems are functioning as designed. If DTC's other than those listed above are present record them on the repair order and repair as necessary before proceeding further with this bulletin.

If the above symptom/condition is experienced and cause for DTC's cannot be determined, perform the following repair procedure.

SPECIAL TOOLS / EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:

REPAIR PROCEDURE - USING THE INTERNET TO RETRIEVE THE FLASH FILE:

NOTE:
If this flash process is interrupted/aborted, the flash should be restarted.

NOTE:
It is recommended that the flash procedure be performed with the StarMOBILE DESKTOP CLIENT -OR- StarMOBILE STANDALONE MODE.

1. Turn ignition key off.

2. Disconnect gateway module under drivers seat. To access the module the driver seat must be fully reclined.

3. Disconnect the occupant classification module (0CM). Follow the detailed service procedures available in DealerCONNECT/TechCONNECT, Refer To Group 8 - Electrical > Restraints - Service Information > Module - Occupant Classification (0CM) > Removal.

4. Turn ignition key on.

5. Reprogram the PCM with the latest software. Follow the detailed service procedures available in DealerCONNECT/TechCONNECT, Refer To Group 8 - Electrical > Electronic Control Modules - Service Information > Module - Powertrain Control > Standard Procedures> PCM/ECM Programming - Gas.

6. Type the necessary information on the "Authorized Modification Label" and attach it near the VECI label.

CAUTION:
Perform the step below in the order listed.

7. Turn ignition key off.

8. Connect gateway module under drivers seat. To access the module the driver seat must be fully reclined.

9. Connect the occupant classification module (0CM). Follow the detailed service procedures available in DealerCONNECT/TechCONNECT, Refer To Group 8 - Electrical > Restraints - Service Information > Module - Occupant Classification (0CM) > Installation.

10. Using the StarSCAN(R) perform the learn ETC procedure.

11. Turn the Ignition key to the off position for 15 seconds.

12. Turn the Ignition key on.

13. Erase DTC's.

14. Turn the Ignition key to the off position for 15 seconds.

15. Start vehicle.

16. If vehicle runs extremely rough or has zero pedal response perform learn ETC procedure again.

NOTE:
Due to the PCM programming procedure, a DTC will be set in other modules within the vehicle, if so equipped. Some DTC's may cause the MIL to illuminate. From the "Home" screen select "System View". Then select "All DTCs". Press "Clear All Stored DTCs" if there are any DTCs shown on the list.
