A/C Condenser - Installation

INSTALLATION

CAUTION: Be certain to adjust the refrigerant oil level when servicing the A/C refrigerant system Refrigerant Oil Level. Failure to properly adjust the refrigerant oil level will prevent the A/C system from operating as designed and can cause serious A/C compressor damage.

NOTE: When replacing multiple A/C system components, refer to the Refrigerant Oil Capacities chart to determine how much oil should be added to the refrigerant systemRefrigerant Oil Level.

NOTE: If only the A/C condenser is being replaced, add 30 milliliters (1 fluid ounce) of refrigerant oil to the refrigerant system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.

NOTE: Replacement of the refrigerant line O-ring seals is required anytime a refrigerant line is disconnected. Failure to replace the rubber O-ring seals may result in a refrigerant system leak.

NOTE: Be certain that each of the radiator and condenser air seals are installed in their proper locations. These air seals are required for the A/C and engine cooling systems to perform as designed.

1. Carefully position the A/C condenser (7) into the engine compartment.
2. Install the bolts (6 and 8) that secure the driver side of the A/C condenser to the radiator (1). Tighten the bolts to 5 Nm (45 in. lbs.).
3. Reposition the radiator and cooling fan (3) and tighten the upper isolators (2) securely.
4. Remove the tape or plugs from the opened refrigerant line fittings and condenser ports.
5. Lubricate new rubber O-ring seals with clean refrigerant oil and install them onto the refrigerant line fittings. Use only the specified O-ring seals as they are made of a special material for the R-134a system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.
6. Connect the A/C discharge line (4) to the A/C condenser.
7. Install the bolt (5) that secures the A/C discharge to the A/C condenser. Tighten the bolt to 18 Nm (13 ft. lbs.).

8. Install the bolts (1 and 3) that secure the passenger side of the A/C condenser (2) to the radiator (5). Tighten the bolts to 5 Nm (45 in. lbs.).
9. Remove the tape or plugs from the liquid line fitting and condenser port.
10. Lubricate a new rubber O-ring seal with clean refrigerant oil and install it onto the liquid line fitting. Use only the specified O-ring as it is made of a special material for the R-134a system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.
11. Connect the A/C liquid line (7) to the A/C condenser.
12. Install the bolt (6) that secures the A/C liquid to the A/C condenser. Tighten the bolt to 18 Nm (13 ft. lbs.).
13. Install the air intake ducts to the front of the air cleaner assembly .
14. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
15. Evacuate the refrigerant system Refrigerant System Evacuate.
16. If the A/C condenser is being replaced, add 30 milliliters (1 fluid ounce) of refrigerant oil to the refrigerant system. When replacing multiple A/C system components, refer to the Refrigerant Oil Capacities chart to determine how much oil should be added to the refrigerant system Refrigerant Oil Level. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.
17. Charge the refrigerant system Refrigerant System Charge.
