Brake Pads - Inspection

INSPECTION

Visually inspect the condition of the brake pad linings (friction material) on the brake pads through the caliper. If a more in-depth inspection needs to be made, removal of the brake pads will be necessary. Brake Pads - Removal.

The brake pad friction material thickness is to be measured at the thinnest point of the friction material.

The minimum front brake pad assembly friction material thickness (1) is 2.5 mm (.100 in.). When the brake pad friction material reaches the minimum thickness, the front brake pads must be replaced.

NOTE: When the brake pads are replaced, only brake pads meeting the Original Equipment Manufacturer material formulation should be used. This is required to maintain the original braking performance of this vehicle.

Replace both brake pads (inboard and outboard) at both front or both rear wheels whenever the brake pads on either side of the vehicle require replacement.

If the brake pads do not require replacement, install the original brake pads back on the vehicle. Make sure each brake pad is returned to its original position on the same wheel of the vehicle it was removed from.
