Seal-Front Output Shaft

SEAL-FRONT OUTPUT SHAFT
REMOVAL





1. Remove the front propeller shaft.
2. Using Holder 6958 (1), remove the front output shaft flange (2) nut.





3. Using a suitable 2 or 3 jaw puller (1), remove the front output shaft flange (2).





4. Using a suitable pry tool (1), remove the output shaft seal (2) from the transfer case (2).

INSTALLATION





1. Install a new front output shaft seal into the transfer case (2) using Seal Installer MD 998334 (1).
2. Coat the seal lip with automatic transmission fluid.





3. Install the front output shaft flange onto the front output shaft.
4. Install a new nut onto the output shaft.
5. Using Holder 6958 (1), tighten the front output shaft flange (2) nut to 250 Nm (185 ft. lbs.).
6. Install the front propeller shaft.
7. Check and correct the transfer case oil level.
