Air Bag Control Module: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable. If the airbag is undeployed, wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before further service.
2. Remove center instrument panel bezel.
3. Disconnect power window switch connectors.
4. Remove five screws to left knee bolster.
5. Remove five screws to right knee bolster.
6. Using a paper clip, remove headlamp switch knob.
7. Remove upper and lower steering column shrouds.
8. Remove complete instrument panel cover/bezel.
9. Remove two screws to radio from the instrument panel.
10. Remove four screws to HVAC control head.
11. Disconnect electrical and vacuum connectors but leave temperature control cable connected and move aside.
12. Reach through the radio opening in the instrument panel and unplug the Airbag Control Module wire harness connector.

13. Remove the three nuts securing the Airbag Control Module (ACM) to the mounting bracket on the floor transmission tunnel.
14. Slide the ACM out through the radio opening in the instrument panel.
INSTALLATION
1. Slide the ACM out through the radio opening in the instrument panel. When installing the ACM, position the unit with the arrow on the module housing pointing forward.
2. Install the three nuts securing the Airbag Control Module (ACM) to the mounting bracket on the floor transmission tunnel. Tighten the nuts to 10.7 Nm (95 in. lbs.).
3. Connect the wire harness connector into the ACM, ensure that the connector is fully-seated and the locking tabs are engaged.
4. Connect electrical and vacuum connectors.
5. Install the four screws to HVAC control head.
6. Install the two screws to radio to the instrument panel.
7. Install the complete instrument panel cover/bezel.
8. Install the upper and lower steering column shrouds.
9. Install the headlamp switch knob.
10. Install five screws to right knee bolster.
11. Install five screws to left knee bolster.
12. Connect the power window switch connectors.
13. Install center instrument panel bezel.
WARNING: DO NOT CONNECT THE BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE. REFER TO ELECTRICAL, RESTRAINTS, DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING - AIRBAG SYSTEM FIRST.
