Antitheft and Alarm Systems: Description and Operation

VEHICLE THEFT SECURITY SYSTEM
The Viper utilizes an Entry Module, This system replaces the Vehicle Theft Alarm Module. The Security function allows the vehicle to be armed actively (with the radio frequency transmitter) or passively (using the lock/unlock switch with keys out of the Ignition and the driver's door open). The vehicle is disarmed by pressing the unlock button on the radio frequency transmitter. An armed vehicle will alarm if either door, the hood or the liftglass are opened. The vehicle cannot be started unless it is disarmed. Any attempt to do so will cause the alarm to sound.

The system can be actively armed by pressing the lock button on the key fob. The system responds with a single horn chirp, if the message is from a valid (programmed) key fob. The system will passively arm if the ignition is turned OFF and the key is removed, the hood and liftglass are closed and a door is open, pressing the lock button on the door and closing the door will arm the system. The security LED will flash at a 10% duty cycle. The system can only be disarmed with a programmed key fob. When the alarm is tripped, the park lamps will flash and the horn will pulse, indicating that the vehicle has been tampered with. The alarm can be tripped by opening doors, hood, liftglass or turning the ignition ON. Once tripped, the alarm will sound for 2.5 minutes. The park and tail lamps will flash for approximately 18 minutes. The PCM will not allow the engine to start. If the entry module has been tripped and 18 minutes have passed, the horn will chirp 3 times upon unlocking with the key fob to alert the driver that a theft condition may have taken place. Normal disarming with the key fob will result in two flashes of the park/tail lamps.

Triggering The Alarm
When the system is armed, opening a door, hood, or the liftglass will trigger the system. Turning the ignition key to the RUN position will also trigger the alarm.

Upon trigger, the alarm will sound for approximately 2.5 minutes. The park lamps, tail lamps, and instrument panel warning lamp will flash for approximately 18 minutes. The engine control module will not allow the engine to start either.
