Tone Wheel

REMOVAL
1. Raise the vehicle.
2. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
3. Remove front brake caliper from the knuckle and brake rotor and hang out of the way.





4. Using hex wrench or driver socket, remove screw retaining ABS tone wheel to hub and bearing.
5. Remove ABS tone wheel.





6. Remove the bolt fastening the wheel speed sensor head to the steering knuckle.
7. Carefully remove the wheel speed sensor head from the steering knuckle.
8. Remove the brake rotor.
9. Remove the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle using Puller, Special Tool C-3894-A.





10. Remove the remaining hub and bearing mounting bolts .
11. Remove the hub and bearing assembly from the steering knuckle.
12. Using an appropriate tool, remove the tone wheel seal from the knuckle.


INSTALLATION





1. Install Installer, Special Tool 6573, on the end of Drive Handle, Special Tool C-4171.
2. Place NEW seal on end of Installer, Special Tool 6573.
3. From the inboard side, align the seal with the seal bore in the knuckle. Slowly tap the tool with a hammer, driving the seal into place. Stop when the tool bottoms against the knuckle. Remove the tools.





CAUTION: A corrosion prevention gasket is used between the hub and bearing and the steering knuckle. The gasket is required to prevent galvanic corrosion between the hub and bearing and the steering knuckle. The corrosion prevention gasket must be used when installing a hub and bearing in the steering knuckle.

4. Install a new corrosion prevention gasket on the hub and bearing before installing it in the steering knuckle.
5. Install the front hub and bearing in the steering knuckle. Align the holes in the corrosion gasket with holes in hub and bearing and steering knuckle.
6. Install the 3 bolts mounting the hub and bearing to the steering knuckle. Remember to leave the fourth mounting bolt out at this time that holds the brake hose in place. Tighten the 3 bolts mounting the hub and bearing to the steering knuckle to a torque of 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.).
7. Make sure mating surface of tone wheel and hub and bearing is clean.
8. Install tone wheel through the seal on the rear of the knuckle and against the rear of the hub and bearing assembly.
9. Using the same bolt or identical replacement bolt, mount tone wheel to the hub and bearing. Tighten bolt to 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.) torque.
10. Install the brake rotor on the hub and bearing.
11. Install brake caliper.
12. Install the wheel speed sensor head in the steering knuckle. Install the mounting bolt. Tighten the mounting bolt to a torque of 12 Nm (105 inch lbs.).
13. Verify proper wheel speed sensor to tone wheel air gap.
14. Install outer tie rod onto steering knuckle. Install tie rod to steering knuckle attaching nut. Tighten the tie rod attaching nut to a torque of 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.). Install the cotter pin in stud of tie rod end.
15. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Progressively tighten the wheel mounting nuts in the proper sequence to 122 Nm (90 ft. lbs.) torque.
16. Lower the vehicle.
17. Road test vehicle to ensure proper operation of the base brakes and ABS.
