Driver/Vehicle Information Display: Description and Operation

MESSAGE CENTER
Message Center Warning Lamps:
- High beam
- Malfunction Indicator (ISO Symbol)
- Shift
- Battery
- Low Oil Pressure
- Engine Temperature
- Seat belt
- Brake
- Door Ajar
- Rear Fog (BUX only)
- Front Fog
- Airbag

The message center indicator lamps are an information system that provides the following fourteen different messages.
- High beam indicator: turned ON when the high beam lamps ON.
- Malfunction Indicator (MIL) (ISO Symbol): is turned ON by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). If a malfunction has occurred that effects the emissions system. There should be a diagnostic trouble code set in the memory.
- Shift: When ON it is necessary to shift from first gear to fourth gear. This is controlled by the Powertrain Control Module. Shifting from first to second or first to third is locked out while the indicator is ON.
- Battery indicator: turned ON if there is a charging system malfunction. The regulator sends a signal to the indicator. The regulator is a internal part of the Powertrain Control Module.
- Low Oil Pressure indicator lamp: turned ON if the engine oil pressure is below 8 psi.
- Engine Temperature indicator lamp: turned ON if the engine coolant reaches an excessive temperature.
- Seat Belt indicator: turned ON when the ignition is turned ON and drivers seat belt is unbuckled. The lamp is controlled though the Chime/Buzzer Warning System.
- Brake indicator: turned ON if parking brake is ON, brake failure due to loss of brake fluid pressure or low fluid level.
- Door Ajar indicator: turned ON when one or both door are not fully closed.
- Rear Fog indicator (BUX only): when the rear fog lamps are ON (BUX only).
- Front Fog indicator: when the front fog lamps are ON.
- Airbag indicator: is turned ON by the Airbag Control Module if a malfunction has occurred that effects the Airbag system. There should also be a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) set in the Airbag Control Module (ACM).
