Heat Shield: Description and Operation
DESCRIPTIONHeat shields are mounted to the frame rails and exhaust manifolds. There is additional thermal insulation in the sill panels between the body and the catalytic converter/resonator.
OPERATION
High temperatures can develop around the catalytic converters and exhaust manifolds. Because of this, heat shields are necessary to protect both the car and the environment.
CAUTION: Avoid application of rust prevention compounds or undercoating materials to exhaust system floor pan heat shields, if equipped. Application of coating will greatly reduce the efficiency of the heat shields resulting in excessive floor pan temperatures and objectionable fumes. Light over spray near the edges is permitted.
