Oil Pan: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Disconnect the battery.
2. Raise the vehicle and drain engine oil.
3. Remove oil pan screws and remove oil pan.
NOTE: Clean and inspect oil pan gasket. The pan gasket can be used again if in good condition.
CLEANING
Clean oil pan in solvent and wipe dry with a clean cloth. Clean all gasket material from mounting surfaces of pan and block. Remove oil pan baffle and screen. Clean passage from oil pick-up to oil pump inlet (Fig. 58).
INSPECTION
1. Inspect oil drain plug and plug hole for stripped or damaged threads and repair as necessary. Tighten to 33 Nm (25 ft. lb.).
2. Inspect oil pan mounting flange for gouges or distortion.
3. Remove oil pan baffle and screen. Inspect for cracks. Clean oil screen in clean solvent.
INSTALLATION
1. Use a new pan gasket, if necessary (Fig. 59).
2. Install the oil pan and tighten screws to 11 Nm (95 in lbs.).
3. Lower vehicle and connect battery.
4. Fill the crankcase with oil to proper level.
