Seals and Gaskets: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Raise vehicle and support vehicle.
2. Remove under body shield.
3. Remove drive shaft assembly.





4. Remove seal with Remover C-3985 (Fig. 99).
5. Clean and inspect extension housing where the seal was located.

INSTALLATION





1. Then tap seal into place with seal installer C-3995/C-3972 (Fig. 100).
2. Install drive shaft.

CAUTION: The drive shaft strap bolts use a Loctite patch, the bolts must be replaced or cleaned and Loctite(R) 242 applied.

CAUTION: Replace drive shaft joint straps whenever they are removed. The straps slightly deform when torqued in place. Reuse of the straps may result in reduced clamp load on the universal joint cap.

3. Check transmission fluid level.
4. Install under body shield.
5. Remove support and lower vehicle.
