Removal
REMOVAL - UPPER CONTROL ARMNOTE: Review all Warnings and Cautions.
1. Raise vehicle.
2. Remove wheel and tire.
NOTE: Vehicles equipped with the ACR suspension package have special spacers, washers and mounting bolts at the lower and upper mounts. It is important that they are noted and not lost during removal and installation.
3. Remove the nut and bolt, mounting shock absorber to mounting bracket on lower control arm.
4. Remove the bolt and nut attaching the shock absorber to the frame bracket.
5. Using a pry bar, carefully push down on the upper control arm far enough to remove the top of the shock absorber from the frame bracket.
6. Remove shock absorber/coil spring assembly from vehicle out through center of upper front control arm.
7. Remove the attaching bolt for the hub/bearing, mounting the brake flex hose bracket to the steering knuckle.
8. Remove the 2 bolts mounting the disc brake caliper to the steering knuckle.
9. Remove the brake caliper from the steering knuckle and rotor. Hang the brake caliper from the lower control arm using mechanics wire. Do not let the brake caliper hang by the brake flex hose.
10. Remove the brake rotor from the hub/bearing.
11. Remove the cotter pin and nut attaching the upper ball joint stud to the steering knuckle.
12. Install Remover, Special Tool C-4150A, on the steering knuckle. Special Tool C-4150A is to be installed so the ball on the bolt of the tool is centered on the end of the ball joint stud.
CAUTION: When separating the ball joint stud from the steering knuckle, do not strike or apply heat to the steering knuckle to help the stud separate from the steering knuckle.
13. Tighten bolt on Remover, Special Tool C-4150A, to apply pressure against the upper ball joint stud. This will separate the ball joint stud from the steering knuckle.
14. Remove the 2 nuts attaching the upper control arm pivot bar to the upper frame rail. Remove the upper control arm from the vehicle.
