Input Shaft Seal Replacement

The input shaft seal is installed from the fluid side of the adapter plate. Partial transmission disassembly will be required to replace this seal.


REMOVAL
1. Raise vehicle on hoist.
2. Drain the transmission fluid.
3. Remove the transmission from the vehicle.
4. Remove clutch slave cylinder from transmission adapter plate.

5. Remove front adapter plate bolts (Fig. 8).
6. Pry front cover adapter loose.

7. Hold input shaft while sliding front adapter off (Fig. 9).
8. Carefully remove seal from transmission adapter.
9. Clean and inspect all sealing surfaces for wear or damage. Replace parts as required.


INSTALLATION
1. Install seal with special tool 6624 driver and 4171 handle. Drive seal into adapter plate until tool bottoms out.
2. Clean sealing surfaces of the transmission case and adapter plate.
3. Apply Mopar Gasket Maker to the sealing surfaces. Then reassemble the transmission.
4. Install transmission into vehicle and fill with Mopar Synthetic Manual Trans Lubricant 75W-85 (MS-9070).
