Rear Axle - 226RIA
REMOVAL1. Raise vehicle on hoist.
2. Remove inner axle shaft straps. Move axle shafts out of the way.
3. Remove under body splash panel.
4. Remove pinion crossmember mounting bolts from axle assembly.
INSTALLATION
CAUTION: The inner axle shaft strap bolts incorporate a Loctite patch for retention on initial installation. These screws must be replaced with new pieces or cleaned and Loctite thread locker reapplied whenever they are removed.
CAUTION: Replace axle shaft universal joint straps whenever they are removed. The straps slightly deform when torqued in place. Reuse of the straps may result in reduced clamp load on the universal joint cap.
CAUTION: The driveshaft strap bolts incorporate a Loctite patch for retention on initial installation. These screws must be replaced with new pieces or cleaned and Loctite thread locker reapplied whenever they are removed.

1. Position axle assembly at mounting bolts.
2. Install axle mounting bolts at pinion crossmember. Tighten bolts to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.).
3. Install axle mounting bolts at differential cover. Tighten bolts to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.).
4. Install front driveshaft. Tighten strap bolts to 36 Nm (320 inch lbs.).
5. Install axle halfshafts. Tighten strap bolts to 36 Nm (320 inch lbs.).
6. Install rear exhaust pipes.
7. Install two rear exhaust grommets.
8. Install center exhaust grommet.
9. Tighten two rear exhaust clamps.
10. Install under body splash shield.
11. Fill differential fluid to level using Mopar Synthetic Gear & Axle Lubricant 75W-140 (MS-8985). A four ounce container of Mopar Limited Slip Additive (MS-5630) should be added if the axle lubricant is to be completely changed.
