Lower Control Arm Bushing
OVERVIEWFor replacement of the lower control arm isolator bushings, the lower control arm must be removed from the vehicle. Refer to Suspension, Control Arm, Service and Repair, Lower Control Arm for the Removal And Installation procedure.
DISASSEMBLY
CAUTION: The jaws of the vise must be covered with protective caps to protect the surface of the control arm from damage.
1. Clamp the lower control arm securely in a vise.
2. Assemble Remover, Special Tool 6969-2, bolt, nut. and thrust washer as shown.
3. Install the assembled pieces of Remover, Special Tool 6969-2, on the lower control arm. Then, install Remover, Special Tool 6969-1, and Nut, Special Tool 6969-4, on the bolt of Remover, Special Tool 6969-2.
4. Isolator bushing is removed from control arm using the following procedure. Hold the bolt of Remover, Special Tool 6969-2, from turning while rotating the nut. This will pull the isolator bushing out of the control arm.
5. Transfer Remover's, Special Tool 6969-1 and 6969-2, and Nut, Special Tool 6969-4, to the remaining isolator bushing in the lower control arm.
6. Remove the second isolator bushing from the control arm using the procedure listed in above steps Step 4 and Step 5.
ASSEMBLY
1. Squarely position the isolator bushing into the control arm pivot end bore.
2. Position the control arm in an arbor press. Support the control arm using Receiver, Special Tool 6969-7. Press the isolator bushing into the lower control arm using Driver, Special Tool 6758.
3. Press the isolator bushing into the control arm until the flange of the bushing is squarely seated against the control arm. No gap is allowed between the flange of the isolator bushing and the control arm.
4. Remove the arm from the arbor press, and the special tools from the newly installed bushing.
5. Repeat the preceding installation steps to install the second bushing in the remaining control arm bushing bore.
6. Install the upper control arm on the vehicle.
