Center Mounted Brake Lamp: Service and Repair

Center High Mounted Stop Lamp:




The following service procedure applies to the Viper Roadster. The Viper Coupe's Center High Mounted Stop Lamp (CHMSL) has no serviceable bulb. If the lamp does not function properly, the CHMSL assembly must be replaced.

REMOVAL
1. Remove the screws holding license plate lamp closure panel to the tail lamp closure panel.

2. Separate the license plate lamp closure panel from the vehicle.
3. Through the license plate lamp opening in the tail lamp closure panel, disengage the CHMSL wire connector from the body wiring harness.
4. Through the license plate lamp opening, remove the metal clip holding the CHMSL to the tail lamp closure panel by pushing clip downward with fingers.

NOTE: Keep metal clip attached to body wire harness in case it is dropped.

5. Separate the CHMSL from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION
1. Insert the CHMSL wiring harness through the CHMSL opening in the tail lamp closure panel.
2. Insert CHMSL into the opening in the tail lamp closure panel.
3. Through the license plate lamp opening, install the metal clip to hold the CHMSL to the tail lamp closure panel by pushing clip upward with your fingers.

NOTE: Make sure the body wire harness is still attached to the clip.

4. Through the license plate opening, engage the CHMSL wiring connector to the body wiring harness.
5. Position the license plate lamp closure panel in the license plate lamp opening.
6. Install the screws to hold the license plate lamp closure panel to the tail lamp closure panel.
