Removal and Replacement
REMOVAL(1) Disconnect the battery.
(2) Remove the hood and support from front support. Refer to BODY for procedure.
(3) Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM for procedure.
(4) Drain the cooling system. Refer to COOLING SYSTEM for procedure.
(5) Remove upper radiator hose and heater hoses from the engine.

(6) Remove the front crossmember (Fig. 39).
(7) Remove accessory drive belt. Refer to COOLING SYSTEM for procedure.
(8) Remove the power steering pump mounting bolts and set the pump aside.
(9) Disconnect the engine electrical connectors and ground cable to the frame.
(10) Remove the lower radiator hose.
(11) Remove the windshield wipers and cowl panel. Refer to WINDSHIELD WIPERS AND WASHERS for procedure.
(12) Disconnect the battery feed connector and brake booster hose.
(13) Perform fuel pressure release procedure. Refer to FUEL SYSTEM for procedure.
(14) Disconnect the vacuum lines, evaporative emission harness, fuel lines and accelerator cable Refer to FUEL SYSTEM for procedures.
(15) Disconnect the exhaust system at exhaust manifolds.
(16) Attach engine lifting hoist.

(17) Disconnect the engine and transmission mounts (Fig. 38).
(18) Remove the gear shift lever. Refer to TRANSMISSION for procedure.
(19) Hoist vehicle. Remove the drive shaft and disconnect torque bar from transmission. Refer to TRANSMISSION for procedure.
(20) Remove the transmission's rear support bracket. Refer to TRANSMISSION for procedure.
(21) Remove the engine and transmission as an assembly.
INSTALLATION
(1) Attach hoist and lower the engine and transmission into engine compartment.
(2) Align the engine mounts and install all mounting nuts. Tighten nuts to torque specified in (Fig. 38).
(3) Support transmission with floor jack until rear support is installed. Tighten bolts to torque specified in (Fig. 38).
(4) Remove the engine hoist.
(5) Install the transmission inspection cover.
(6) Connect the exhaust assembly to exhaust manifold using NEW V-Band clamps. Tighten V-Band clamps to 11 Nm (100 in. lbs.).
(7) Install the power steering pump. Refer to STEERING for procedure.
(8) Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to COOLING SYSTEM for procedure.
(9) Lower the vehicle and connect all vacuum lines.
(10) Connect all electrical connections and ground strap.
(11) Connect the fuel lines and accelerator cable.
(12) Install radiator hoses and connect heater hoses.
(13) Fill cooling system. Refer to COOLING SYSTEM for procedure.
(14) Fill the engine crankcase with proper oil to correct level.
(15) Install the hood support bracket and hood. Refer to BODY for procedure.
(16) Connect the battery.
(17) Start engine and run until operating temperature is reached.
