Oil Pump
DISASSEMBLYThe timing chain case cover contains 2 pressure relief valves-both are identical.

(1) Remove oil filter adapter (Fig. 100).
(2) To remove the relief valves, proceed as follows:
(3) Drill a 3.175 mm (1/8 inch) hole into the relief valve retainer cap and insert a self-threading sheet metal screw into cap.

(4) Clamp screw into a vise. While supporting chain case cover, remove cap by tapping case cover using a soft hammer. Discard retainer cap and remove spring and relief valve (Fig. 101).
(5) Remove oil pump cover screws and lift off cover.
(6) Remove pump rotors.

(7) Wash all parts in a suitable solvent and inspect carefully for damage or wear (Fig. 102).
ASSEMBLY

(1) Assemble pump using new parts as required. Assemble with chamfer side to the inside of chain case cover. Apply a 1.0 mm (0.04 inch) bead of Mopar & Gasket Maker to oil pump cover (Fig. 103) and assemble cover immediately.
(2) Tighten cover screws to 23 Nm (200 in. lbs.).
(3) Prime oil pump before installation by filling rotor cavity with engine oil.
(4) If removed, install relief valves and new retainer caps.
(5) Install chain case cover slowly. Refer to Timing Chain Cover Installation.
(6) Install oil filter adapter with new gasket. Tighten bolts to 11 Nm (95 in. lbs.).
