Lubricant Level

The differential lubricant level should be inspected every 12 months/7500 miles or at each engine oil change, which ever comes first.

The lubricant level should be checked with the vehicle in a level position. The lubricant level should not be lower than 6.4 mm (1/4 inch) below the fill hole.

Differential lubricant service should be performed regularly. Refer to Maintenance, or the vehicle owner's manual for recommended maintenance intervals.

The differential lubricant capacity is 45 fl. oz., including four ounces of friction modifier. Do not overfill the differential. This can cause the lubricant to foam and/or overheat, and may cause differential leaks.

CAUTION: If the rear axle has been submerged in water, the axle lubricant must be checked for water contamination immediately. Water contaminated lubricant could cause premature axle failure.
