Exhaust Manifold: Description and Operation

Exhaust manifolds are tubular stainless steel, one piece design with large runners. The lower section has a heated oxygen sensor on each side. For sealing a Multi-Layer Steel (MLS) gasket is used between the exhaust manifold and aluminum cylinder head.

V-Band Clamp:

Manifold Coupling
The exhaust manifold to catalytic converter connection is secured by a V-Band clamp. When the V-Band clamp is tightened, it forces the flared mating surfaces of the manifold and catalytic converter pipe together for sealing and support of the joint. The flexible section on the catalytic converter pipe absorbs, engine movement. The V-Band clamp must be replaced if removed.
