Crankshaft
REMOVAL1. Remove the timing chain cover, oil pan, and rear oil seal retainer.
Windage Trap-Removal:
2. Remove windage tray.
Main Bearing Cap Identification:
3. Bearing caps are not interchangeable and should be marked before removal to insure correct re-assembly.
4. Remove the main cap bolts.
5. Remove the main bearing caps.
6. When removing the crankshaft, it should be lifted straight out of the engine block. This will prevent any damage to the engine and crankshaft.
INSTALLATION
1. Lubricate the main bearings with clean engine oil and install into cylinder block.
2. Install the crankshaft.
3. Lubricate the main journals with clean engine oil. Install each main cap and tighten bolts finger tight.
4. Tighten the main cap bolts in the following tightening sequence:
Main Bearing Cap Torque Sequence:
5. Step 1 Tighten only the center main caps bolts in the sequence order shown in above image to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.). This will seat the bearing caps onto the engine block.
6. Step 2 To ensure correct thrust bearing alignment the following procedure must be done:
a. Move crankshaft all the way to the rear of its travel.
b. Then, move crankshaft all the way to the front of its travel.
c. Wedge an appropriate tool between the rear of the cylinder block and rear crankshaft counterweight. This will hold the crankshaft in it's most forward position.
7. Step A1 Tighten the Al bolts to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.) in the sequence order shown in above image.
8. Step A2 Tighten the A2 bolts to 115 Nm (85 ft. lbs.) in the sequence order shown in above image.
9. Step A3 Tighten the A3 Bolts to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.) in the sequence order shown in above image.
10. Remove the holding tool.
11. Install the windage tray and tighten nuts to 11 Nm (95 inch lbs.).
12. Install the crankshaft rear oil seal and retainer.
13. Install the timing chain cover.
14. Install the oil pan.
