Cooling System - Reverse Flushing

FLUSHING PROCEDURE

Reverse flushing of the cooling system is the forcing of water through the cooling system, using air pressure in a direction opposite to that of the normal flow of water. This is only necessary with dirty systems or in case of partially plugged systems.

RADIATOR
1. Drain cooling system.
2. Remove radiator hoses from engine.
3. Install suitable flushing gun in radiator lower hose.
4. Fill radiator with clean water and turn on air in short blasts. Repeat this step until water runs clean.

CAUTION: Internal radiator pressure must not exceed 138 kPa (20 psi) as damage to radiator may result.

5. Allow remaining water to drain from cooling system.
6. Install radiator hoses.
7. Fill cooling system.

ENGINE
1. Drain cooling system.
2. Remove hoses from radiator.
3. Remove heater inlet hose.
4. Install a suitable flushing gun to heater hose-in reverse of normal coolant flow.
5. Fill engine with clean water. Apply air no higher than 138 kPa (20 psi) in short blasts. Repeat this step until water runs clean.
6. Install heater inlet hose
7. Fill cooling system.
