Lubricant Level

LUBRICANT LEVEL
Differential housing lubricant level checks are recommended at every 12 months/7,500 miles or each engine oil change.

The lubricant should be drained and refilled every 22,500 miles under normal use and 9,000 miles under severe use.

The rear axle fluid capacity is 45 fl. oz. This includes four ounces of friction modifier.

CAUTION: If the rear axle has been submerged in water, the axle lubricant must be checked for water contamination immediately. Water contaminated lubricant could cause premature axle failure.

The lubricant level should be checked with the vehicle in a level position. The lubricant level should not be lower than 6.4 mm (1/4 inch) below the fill hole.

Do not overfill the differential. This can cause the lubricant to foam and/or overheat.
