Water Pump: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Drain Cooling System.
2. Remove air cleaner assembly.
3. Remove Poly-V drive belt.
4. Remove bolts attaching power steering oil cooler to front crossmember and set cooler aside.
5. Remove lower radiator and coolant return hoses at water pump.
6. Remove crankshaft pulley and disconnect camshaft position sensor electrical connector.
7. Remove water pump pulley attaching bolts. The pulley is removed with the water pump.

8. Remove pump mounting screws. Remove pump.

NOTE: Water pump is removed between the front upper crossmember and power steering gear.

9. Remove and discard water pump gasket.

10. Clean gasket surfaces on pump and chain case cover. Take care not to scratch or gouge sealing surface.

INSTALLATION
1. Install new gasket.
2. The water pump pulley must be positioned (but not attached) on pump before water pump is installed to chain case cover. Install pump to chain case cover. Tighten screws to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).
3. Rotate pump by hand to check for freedom of movement.
4. Position pulley on pump. Install screws and tighten to 23 Nm (200 inch lbs.).
5. Install crankshaft pulley and tighten attaching bolts to 23 Nm (20 inch lbs.).
6. Connect the camshaft position sensor electrical connector.
7. Install lower radiator and coolant return hoses.
8. Attach power steering oil cooler to front crossmember.
9. Install drive belt.
10. Install air cleaner assembly.
11. Refill Cooling System.
