Radiator Cooling Fan Motor: Testing and Inspection
The fan is turned on by the temperature of the coolant which is sensed by the coolant temperature sensor which sends the message to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The PCM turns on the fan through the fan relays.Switching through the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) provides fan control for the following conditions.
- The fan will not run during cranking until the engine starts no matter what the coolant temperature is.
- Low Speed Fan will operate when air conditioning is ON.
- High speed fan will run when Powertrain control module (PCM) is in limp mode.
Fan control is accomplished based on coolant temperature. The fan will go on when;
- Low Speed Fan ON 95°C (207°F)
- Low Speed Fan OFF 94°C (201°F)
- High Speed Fan ON 102°C (216°F)
- High Speed Fan OFF 98°C (208°F)
